    Broadly agree with the author. With the but that Trump could win here too.

    Poilievre’s whole Brand is built on grievance politics and while he’s not the naked corruption of Trump, he is the total void of ideology other than “fuck those guys”.

    Canadian conservatism was in days gone by focused on fiscal restraint, military strength, and a tie to the English crown. Today what’s left? Inter regional grievances, feelings of betrayal or anger about urban cultural norms, a not that latent homophobia centred on a former PM…

    Trump proves his critics right everyday. Part of what made Mark Carney’s speech so noteworthy was that it came from an elite, a world leader who’s country exports 75% of its goods to the U.S., and is uniquely vulnerable to the capricious malevolence of the mad king in the white house.
