Canada’s recent dealings with China ‘entirely consistent’ with CUSMA, Carney says – The prime minister’s comments follow Trump’s threat to impose 100 per cent tariffs on Canadian goods if Ottawa forges a trade deal with Beijing.

With Trump, it feels like your next door neighbor is threatening you based on what you are eating in your own private home. It’s none of their business what you eat in your private home but they want to have a say anyways. So suffocating and annoying, SMH.
Didn’t king pedo himself say that he would have done the same thing? I suppose it’s entirely likely he forgot given his dementia.
Trump is mad at the speech, not the small deal with China.
This is great, because it continues to make Trump look stupid.
If Trump could read this would upset him.
We should ignore. Trump won’t follow through. Trump probably compensating after feeling embarrassed by the Davos speech.
I keep thinking trump can’t get any more stupid. Then he does one of his trumpisms and I’m once again reminded to never underestimate the man. The recent deal with China and Canada isn’t a free trade deal. It’s not even tariff free. Both Canola to China and EVs coming into Canada both still will be charged tariffs. Just the size has changed. Similar to the US/China deal on superconductors not too long ago.
If trump doesn’t want to lose Canada. Strat treating them like an ally.
Looks like Bessent already sorta back off the threat
He said in an interview the tariffs are IF Canada makes a free trade deal with China
Ya this has nothing to do with china. The issue is that once one of Trump’s aides explained the big words and the gist of Carney’s speech, he had a tantrum.
Carney’s speech is like pouring cold water on the mid powers to wake them up from the dead American dream.
Here’s the big question though. After Carney’s speech it would seem hypocritical to actually fall in line and listen to what the US has to say. We’re our own independent country, we should be allowed and able to make our own deals on our own terms without the US having any influence or input.
Trump made his own deal with China for the soybeans and in return allowing China access to buy semi conductors. So anyone listening to Trump and supporting him, especially on our side of the border, are just clueless.
We actually honour agreements and understand the terms and conditions.

You know that BYD manufactures electric buses in California, right? Trump is mad because we approached China first for cars.
One leader has read the text of CUSMA.
Guess which one?
In a week or so, one of his handlers will explain this to Trump and he’ll pull the tariffs and pretend he won and that the sole reason Canada is ONLY pursuing a relatively small trade agreement (vs free trade) is because of him. Victory! Best negotiator ever! Art of the deal!
Then he’ll cancel the 100% tariffs UNTIL the next time his ego is hurt. Then they’ll go up to 150%. Yawn, rinse, repeat.
At a certain point, it’s not even worth reacting every time. Not because it’s not a serious issue, but because he’ll have new tantrums every month or so regardless of what we do.
It’s like trying to explain the complexities of international trade and diplomacy to a 5 year old…
