Dozens of families gathered outside a courthouse in the northern Syrian city of Raqqa, hoping for the release of relatives held by the Syrian Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) at the nearby al-Aqtan prison. It comes after Syria’s nascent government forces routed SDF fighters — once top U.S. allies in the fight against Islamic State group — from areas of northeastern Syria they had controlled for years and where they had been guarding camps holding IS prisoners.
