Jetstar has launched a flash sale for Aussies wanting to travel to Japan and South Korea. That pocket of the globe has become extremely popular with Australians in recent years and the airline wants to get you there as cheaply as possible.
Jetstar revealed to Yahoo Lifestyle that for the next 72 hours, people wanting to visit those two countries can book a return flight for free. There are 18,000 seats available for this sale and they likely won’t last long.
“Customers who purchase an outbound starter fare to Tokyo (Narita), Osaka (Kansai) or Seoul (Incheon) can receive the return fare free with a list of selected travel dates available,” Jetstar said in a statement.

The sale kicked off for Club Jetstar members at midnight Tuesday, January 27, and will last until 11:59pm Friday, January 30.
However, it could end earlier if all the seats are sold out.
If you’re not a member of Club Jetstar, which costs $65 to join or $55 to renew, the sale will be available from midday Tuesday.

How does Jetstar’s Japan and South Korea sale work?
Flying from Sydney to Narita in July this year would cost non-Club Jetstar members $508, with the return flight back to Australia costing $795.
However, under this deal, you’d only have to pay for that first ticket, meaning you could be saving hundreds of dollars.
The final price will depend on where you fly to, at what time of year, and whether you have bags to check in.
The return-for-free deal only applies to the Starter fare, which allows passengers to have up to 7kg of cabin baggage, no free seat selection, no free food or drink, a fee to change the date or time of your flight, a fee to cancel your flight, and no access to getting Qantas Frequent Flyer points.
It’s also only available from the same arrival and departure ports.

Why Japan has become so popular with Aussies
Compare the Market revealed earlier this year that Japan is set to be the fourth most popular destination for Aussies in 2026 after Bali, the UK, and Italy.
Not only is the Aussie dollar doing well against the Yen, it’s relatively close compared to the US and Europe, and offers travellers an incredible cultural experience.
Compare the Market’s travel expert Catriona Rowntree said Japan is showing no signs of slowing down as one of the best places to visit.
“Japan is a cultural powerhouse where tradition meets cutting-edge technology, food and fashion,” she said.
“Australians love the contrast of serene temples and bustling city life, and the culinary scene is second to none – as the locals say ‘oishii’.
“With cherry blossom season and world-class skiing, there’s something new to see or do whenever you visit.
“Just make sure you’ve got the right level of travel insurance if you’re going planning to see the country from a unique perspective – whether that’s from the seat of a bike to the end of a bungee cord.
“That’s true, wherever you’re heading in 2026.”
