Focusing on the dynamism of small and independent wineries and the strategic importance of the wine sector for the Greek economy, the Artisanal Greek Wineries 2026 exhibition, dedicated to Greek wine, took place last weekend at Zappio, central Athens.
In his greeting, Spyros Protopsaltis, secretary general of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, emphasized that Greek wine is not merely an agricultural product, but a part of the country’s identity. He noted, “Greece doesn’t just have wine. Greece has a history in wine, an identity in wine, a future in wine.”
The wine sector, he stressed, is a strategic priority for the ministry, as it links production with processing, culture, and international outreach, while also creating jobs and sustaining entire regions of the country.
Special attention was given to the role of small and medium-sized winemakers and vine-growers, who continue to invest in quality and authenticity, at a time when the sector faces challenges such as climate change, rising production costs, and international competition.
