DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Activists said Tuesday that at least 6,126 people were killed in Iran’s crackdown on nationwide protests and many more are still feared dead, as a U.S. aircraft carrier group arrived in the Mideast to lead any American military response to the crisis.
Two Iranian-backed militias in the Mideast have signaled their willingness to launch new attacks, likely trying to back Iran after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened military action over the killing of peaceful protesters or Tehran launching mass executions in the wake of the demonstrations.
Iran has repeatedly threatened to drag the entire Mideast into a war, though its air defenses and military are still reeling after the June war launched by Israel against the country.
Both the Houthis and Kataib Hezbollah sat out from Israel’s 12-day war on Iran that saw the United States bomb Iranian nuclear sites. The hesitancy to get involved shows the disarray still affecting Iran’s self-described “Axis of Resistance” after facing attacks from Israel during its war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

6126 is a much different number than 15000 previously estimated

I’ve heard 6k, 12k, and 32k.
I feel like we can’t really trust any numbers yet, but it certainly sounds like a lot in a short time.

It’s the way to keep down descent and keep its population compliant, just like ICE

This is going to end up like Tienanmen Square, where they tell us the official death count is a few hundred, but we all know it’s tens of thousands.

This is a misleading title. That’s the number of *verified* deaths. The *estimates* of the number of deaths is hovering around at least 30k from multiple sources, and likely to go up.
These killings took place all over the country, in hundreds of towns and villages. The regime is threatening doctors, withholding bodies, and shutting down the internet to hide evidence. Plenty of people have not found their loved one’s bodies yet, much less contact some foreign institute to report the death and have it verified.
These kinds of headlines are downplaying the scale of the catastrophe, whether intentionally or not.

I mean yeah, at least 5 people died from COVID too, and 2 people at least died during WW2
What’s the point of this thing? we just throwing numbers out there eh?

And the dictatorship is still in place. This is what they wanted venezuelans to do without help. Thank you USA, for not leaving your neighbor alone with their abusers.
