North Korea fired at least one unidentified projectile towards the East Sea, known as the Sea of Japan, South Korean news agency Yonhap reported on Tuesday, citing Seoul’s military.
Yonhap cited the military’s Joint Chiefs of Staff in Seoul as saying that it detected the launch on Tuesday.Â
No further details were initially provided.
Pyongyang had last launched a ballistic missile toward the East Sea on January 4.
The North Korean leadership at the time spoke of hypersonic missiles hitting their intended targets 1,000 kilometres away.
North Korea was prohibited by UN resolutions from launching or even testing ballistic missiles of any range.
These are usually surface-to-surface missiles that can also be equipped with a nuclear warhead.
