Make it make sense

  1. It makes sense because they are fascists and hypocrisy is the point. In groups and Out groups.

They want to be able to do it, they don’t want you to be able to do it. “Bind but not protect” vs “Protect but not bind.”

They are incapable of making statements in good faith anymore, if they ever were. And they are irredeemable.

  2. Guns are a cultural identity marker for a lot of these people, like their little shiny gold crosses or their “traditional family values”. They mainly use it to exclude others without having to specifically talk about keeping out the “others” from their identity space.

Trump has shown how empty and hypocritical they are though, because everything he does is 100 times worse than anything they’ve ever blamed on other groups and they still stick by his side.

    They are an identity cult.

This was their house if I recall. Still psycho attention seeking boomers but a bit of a distinction.

Isn’t this the part where the ammosexuals say something about “trigger control” or some such bullshit?

Youre making reasonable people look like idiots.
These people were standing in front of their home. There are better examples of this.

  6. Those people aren’t protesting.

People are wrong that if you’re using your 1A rights you surrender your 2A rights.

But come on. Can we not pretend that people who aren’t protesting are protesting?

  7. Choose your fighter, Chud who’s fave movie is “Rambo part 2” or Mrs. Limpwrists McNeverheldagun?

  8. It makes perfect sense when you realize that the hypocrisy is the point. They’re not about having consistent principles and laws applied equally to everyone. They’re about “rules for thee, not for me.”

The problem is we keep on thinking that we’re going to point out their hypocrisy and have this “gotcha” moment.

  9. Because MAGA and Republicans ***never*** argue in good-faith. Every single argument is something that emboldens their side and harms the other side. They will completely flip-flop and argue the exact opposite whenever that will harm the other side.

People need to stop listening to the right-wing! All lies and manipulation.

The unfortunate part… Their strategy works – gang-busters – when faced with the left-wing’s strategy of only arguing in good-faith.

  10. It doesn’t make sense unless you understand that it doesn’t make sense. It will never make sense to you.

Here’s how I tried to hold onto this concept: in any situation, ask yourself what the worst possible choice would be. That is the choice Trump will make, and his supporters will echo.

  11. They mean what they say, they feel that- YOU shouldn’t. But to be fair, it is splitting Republicans, a lot of them are defending the right to conceal carry at a protest.

  12. Not the best example. They’re standing on their own property, people happen to be protesting there.

There’s plenty of examples of right-wingers showing up strapped in public to the BLM protests just a few years ago in the same place and other cities ago over. Their side cheered about 2nd amendment rights and none of them were even shot.

  13. They bring guns to protest the protesters protesting the government. Republicans say you should never trust the government while defending this government that has a record of lying to the public repeatedly more than any admin in the history of the US and treading all over the constitution.

  14. Technically, MAGA hasn’t said this. EVERY elected member of Congress and appointed federal official who signed on to Project 2025 under Trump has said this, because they HAVE to! Project 2025 guidelines give the President complete authority. He’s above the Constitution, Federal Laws, State Laws, and, of course, Americans. We only get to have guns when the President says it’s okay! And he hates Democrats because they denounce Authoritarianism and support the Constitution, our democracy, our Country, and our People. I don’t think most members of MAGA even know about Project 2025. Taking money, children, and guns are JUST the beginning. 💔

  15. This picture is not a very good comparison because it is easy to argue that these two were concerned for their property. They did not “go to” a protest with guns. They produced them in response to a protest.

I get the point, but the better comparison is Kyle Rittenhouse who went out of his way to bring a gun to a protest. And killed people.

    “Make it make sense”

The couple in the accompanying photo are White Christian Nationalists. The laws of the Constitution, the US, and civil society do not apply to them except when it’s to their benefit.

  17. To generalize:

The left carries guns at protests to protect themselves against state violence.

The right carries guns at protests to protect themselves against the public.

  18. They are the same people who think untrained and underpaid teachers should have guns in class to protect students, from school shooters.

It’s not about the guns, it’s about who has the guns. Just like it’s not about who is illegal or legal, it’s about the color of their skin, just like it’s not about being pro life, just like it’s all about how much wealth and power you have.

  19. The mental gymnastics MAGA is trying to do to make it fit their narratives is mind boggling.

  20. Conservatives will drop any principle once it is no longer politically expedient for them.

I wrote this elsewhere because this question has been raised a lot. I wish I was both young and smart enough to go back to school for neuroscience to study how things like ASPD (psychopathy and sociopathy essentially) and narcissism forms, how to prevent it, how to reverse it, and ultimately how to foster greater empathy in society.

The single most important questions to the survival of our species in my opinion is: How do we identify and stop psychopaths before they ascend to power?

Because I ultimately think we have the solutions, or at least capacity, to solve every major societal issue we face (after all, we created the problem usually); it’s just getting the greedy out of the way.

In other societies who have things like universal healthcare and a nest egg and strong unions with coffers to bankroll strikes, leverage is more in the hands of the working class. In America? All, and I mean all power, is in the hands of big business.

I wrote this elsewhere but may be worth your read: conservatives have been trained their whole lives to believe that success and happiness is solely determined by how much wealth you can amass, so they have an inferiority complex relative to their idols.

It’s why the conservative ideology is broken from the outset and incompatible with broader civilization; it is premised on ignorance, and greed.

The question is how do you get people out of this? Coming from a former Republican household, I have some ideas but there are no easy solutions to change the momentum.

Typically what feeds conservatism is: (1) lack of empathy as taught by mentors, usually parents, (2) lack of formal critical-thinking skills (identification of fallacies for example), and or (3) a lack of time to parse all the information and disinformation out there.

As a result, the most vulnerable who fall victim to this rhetoric are those who checked out of society. The bullied and the bullies; the traumatized, the ones who are lonely but don’t even know it. Those working two jobs to make ends meet, then go home drink beer which doesn’t exactly promote high level thinking, and then sit back and view fox news or brose social media mindlessly that tells them, “hey it’s this trans person or poor immigrant who is why you hate your life!”

They’ve then been fed the bootstrap rhetoric for so long that some believe like you allude to that if they work just a bit harder, maybe screw over just a few more of your fellow humans, that they too can ascend to godlike status.

So alas, the conservative ideology is compromised of the grifters, and the grifted.

The long-term solutions to getting people out of this is changing the landscape for how kids are raised; improving education; lowering overall stress in society; fostering empathy, reducing substance abuse, etc.

The short-term solution is either let the economy crash so these short-sighted individuals feel the pain in their wallets, or try to redirect their legitimate angers and stressors and grievances to the true source of their pains: the ultra rich. Not easy, but possible.

  22. i’ve always suspected that minutes prior, they fought over who’d get the bigger gun.
