  1. Good.

A whole lot of people will believe every lie that comes out of the White House, but the rest of us need to stop being polite about it. No. That isn’t what happened. Fuck that noise.

  2. Carney also said Canada is willing to do trade deals with countries that want to do fair trade deals. If trump wants a real trade agreement and doesnt change his mind every 24 hours, we’d be more than happy to sign one with the states. Theres no reason for his administration to be so mad and bull headed all the time. They create these problems and then get angry when people dont like it.

  3. Well obviously there’s no contest in a credibility battle here.

More interesting is how limited the aims of the Americans are in this instance. Trying to scuff Carney a little is pretty small ball for this great mighty power don’t you think? I guess they realize they can’t refute the core argument he made.

  4. Canada should stick to their guns, no matter what. No concessions. No carveouts. No bending the knee.

It was a historic speech from Carney. I’m buying into the vision. Many Canadians across party lines are. Going against that just to keep Donald Trump happy, which I guarantee will not lead to any deal with Canada getting nothing, would make Carney lose credibility.

The US is no longer a trustworthy partner to have. So Carney should make as many trade deals as possible, quickly.

  5. “During an appearance on Fox News’ *Hannity* program on Monday, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said he was there when Trump spoke with Carney, saying the prime minister used the opportunity to recant what he said during his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos last week.

“I was in the Oval (Office) with the president today. He spoke to Prime Minister Carney, who was very aggressively walking back some of the unfortunate remarks he made at Davos,” Bessent said.”

Scott Bessent and his ilk are all spineless worms. Pathetic.

Meanwhile on the home front, I know people that are bitching that he should have just kept his mouth shut and not “poke the bear” because now we’re going to face retaliation. Seriously what are we supposed to do? I support what our PM said, and I’m glad it was us who stood up and said “we need to be ready for what’s next”.

The US MAGA administration is probably just trying to spin this for their home audience to maintain the illusion that they are still in charge of the global narrative. The thought that sovereign nations might make independent multilateral agreements is difficult for the administration to grapple with, so the are reforming the story to suit the way they wish this was playing out.

So who are we to believe? PM Carney, who plainly stated how the world is, and denies walking back a single word of that speech?

Or the Trump administration, which lies about everything and has ICE murdering US citizens and then calls the victims “terrorists and assassins”?

Sadly we all know who MAGA will believe.

Maybe if Carney put out readouts of his calls with Trump (and other world leaders), we wouldn’t be hearing about it secondhand or having to press the PM for details.

If Bessent hadn’t mentioned it on TV yesterday, would we have known this call with Trump even happened? Would we have found out only if Trump posted about it on social media?

Probably a bit of truth from both. We know that Carney is diplomatic and tactful so likely he was diplomatic sounding on the phone with Trump. May have gotten misunderstood as “taking back his comments” when it wasn’t really the case.

A bit like the texts between Trump and Macron. They are all friendly behind closed doors.

  11. Americans are now champions of disinformation.

Everything they blame Russia and.China of doing, they are doing it as well.

At least these two countries do not have the hypocrisy of calling themselves “champion of freedom and democracy”!

  12. The simple and obvious truth is that Trump didn’t *understand* Carney’s speech at Davos. Even if he were able to parse the language and the concepts, he wouldn’t be able to sit through a speech that long unless it was someone singing his praises.

He got a dumbed-down TLDR of the speech from some sycophant who said, “Carney said some mean things about you”, and he went apeshit.

On the phone, Carney probably just said, “No, I wasn’t mean to you”, and Trump interpreted it as him walking back comments, comments Trump never properly understood in the first place.
