The Bruins organization is sending its eighth player — and second Lindholm — to the Milan-Cortina Olympics next month.

Defenseman Hampus Lindholm was named to Team Sweden’s roster Tuesday as one of two replacement players, in addition to Minnesota’s Marcus Johansson. Lindholm and Johansson will take the spots of injured NHLers Jonas Brodin and Leo Carlsson, respectively.

Lindholm joins Boston teammate Elias Lindholm (no relation) on the Three Crowns team.

Other Bruins heading to Italy are Charlie McAvoy and Jeremy Swayman (United States); David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha (Czechia); Henri Jokiharju (Finland); and Providence’s Dans Locmelis (Latvia).

With rumors swirling that Hampus Lindholm, 32, would be tabbed, he told the Globe last week, “Even if they call me the day before, I would always say yes.”

This is the first time Hampus Lindholm will be wearing his nation’s colors since winning a gold medal at the World Championship in 2018. He also played at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey and the 2012 World Junior Championship.

“It’s a great honor. I know he was a little bummed there when he didn’t get the call at first,” said Bruins coach Marco Sturm. “But, he also knew anything can happen and it did happen with injuries. We’re all very excited that he made the team.”

Heading into Tuesday night’s game against the Predators, Hampus Lindholm had three goals and 16 points in 39 games. He tallied his fourth of the season at 13:16 of the first period to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead over the Predators.

Johansson, 35, who collected four goals and 11 points in 22 playoff games with the Bruins in 2019, is one of three who also played on the last Swedish team to feature NHL players, joining Gabriel Landeskog and Erik Karlsson, who won silver at the 2014 Sochi Games.
