I was only able to read the first page of this article because of how many hoops it wants me to jump through, but honestly, I don’t have a problem with newspapers being boring. News should be the news, and the editorial page should not be allowed to have its influence bleed over into it.
Japanese newspapers do have editorial sections called shasetsu (社説) which do a lot to distinguish the from each other.

Sure, but is that a bad thing?
I don’t need somebody else to think for me, nor do I need them to influence my own thoughts. Let me be the free judge of what’s happening.
