A full 71% of citizens are in favor of Macedonia’s membership in the European Union, according to the latest survey by the “Institute for Democracy Societas Civilis”. The survey, which was presented today in the Parliament, showed that the EU is consistently seen as Macedonia’s most trusted partner now, also due to the uncertain policy of the United States, reports Telegraph Macedonia.
The number of citizens who consider Macedonia a country that belongs to the West has increased, especially after the dilemmas of the past years about turning towards the East.
The Institute’s director, Marko Troshanovski, says this is a huge increase in support for the EU, especially since it is due to the changing mood of the Macedonian community.
The percentage of citizens who believe that Macedonia has done enough and that it no longer needs to do anything has decreased. A drop of eight percentage points was recorded here.
Troshanovski says that expectations that the condition for constitutional amendments will change are unrealistic and called on parties to work immediately on reforms.
“We no longer have excuses for certain legal solutions. This is our only homework. Anything else is a lost life and a lost policy,” said Troshanovski.
Opposition to constitutional changes continues to be strong.
But Troshanovski believes that the reality is not like this, emphasizing that both sides, and above all the citizens of the RMV, lose from the status quo.
“Therefore, it is time to reach out to our Bulgarian neighbor, respect their interests, and seek a solution according to European standards,” he says.
The increase in support for the EU compared to last year is almost 10 percent. According to the research, support is also increasing among members of the OBRM-PDUKM, which is probably due to their coming to power./Telegraph/
