  1. “The couple was among six people flogged for breaking the Islamic code, including a sharia police officer and his female partner, who were caught in close proximity in a private place. That couple received 23 strikes each.”

Imagine you just walk into a room and the presence of someone else being there just means you get caned 23 times.

  2. Fainting??? That’s more like beaten unconscious… complicit journalism sugar coating headlines to pacify abusive regimes is part of the problem in this world. Tardwits

  3. 5,482,527 million people live there, they can’t have inter faith relationships, being gay is illegal, alcohol, gambling,~~marriage~~ sex outside of ~~sex~~ marriage etc. God, 5 million people living by ridiculously strict and archaic laws because of a shitty made up story about a god that isn’t real. The weird thing is they never even put sharia law in their demand for autonomy it just happened because they were granted autonomy in 2001. Imagine if they’ve never been raised with religion what that would be like today.

  4. Why can’t the voices of the so-called human rights activists, who are always so loud, be heard in cases like this? Perhaps it’s my ignorance that prevents me from knowing.

  5. It’s impossible to have any kind of honest discussion about Islam on this website. People are so obsessed with Christianity that you cannot discuss the atrocities of Islam at all without someone completely derailing the conversation.

  6. “including a sharia police officer and his female partner, who were caught in close proximity in a private place”

WTF is wrong with these religious nutcases. This Islamic code is poisonous and should have no place in modern society. “Close proximity” is a crime now? Well, I dare these crazies to come and get me, and probably 90% of redditors.

  7. what a fucked up place. its the 21st century and they still want to live like barbarians

As an Indonesian, this dammed religion is one of the reasons I left.

A good politician that you can’t find dirt on? use Islam! there is a verse where you must vote for an Islamic leader

Preach tolerance but only when it’s beneficial.

“Oh you shouldn’t have the big cross on your church, be tolerant of Islam!”

“Oh you don’t like that our mosques blast shitty megaphones at 3AM? Be tolerant”

Mind you we are one of the most secular “Islamic” countries, as we don’t identify as an Islamic country, but only Muslims can run as president

  9. I find it frustrating how people are so quick to blame Indonesia for this. This happened in Aceh, and because Aceh has special autonomy, the province makes its own rules rather than the central government (Indonesia).

Aceh is the only province in Indonesia that implements Sharia law. For many years there was a large insurgency there calling for independence, and the conflict only subsided after the 2004 tsunami.

The only reason sharia law there is relatively restrained today is because Aceh remains part of Indonesia. It cannot implement what some would call “full sharia law” because that would violate Indonesia’s constitution.

So in reality, it is because of Indonesia that Aceh does not apply the death penalty for apostasy or punishment by stoning today.

Whenever we have a news like that about an archaic punishment, it’s always for something that is bad in islam only. I want to know what they do to those who commit universal crimes, like murder or rape

  11. And people are ok with this religion in the western world and you’re racist for wanting to keep it out.

Its even hypocritical because people championing women’s rights and same sex marriage will welcome influxes of people with ideologies completely opposite to their own.
