Iisalmi and Liminka openings strengthen nationwide LBG coverage as Nordic network grows.

St1 has opened two new liquefied biogas (LBG) refueling stations for heavy‑duty transport in the Finnish towns of Iisalmi and Liminka, expanding the company’s national network to seven dedicated LBG sites. The additions support the company’s strategy to broaden access to low‑emission fuels across Finland’s main logistics corridors.

The Iisalmi station is positioned to serve north–south traffic across Eastern Finland, an area where long‑haul routes and regional transport providers have been seeking alternatives to fossil fuels. In Liminka, the new station sits in Tupos, a growing logistics hub along Highway 4, enabling smoother refueling for fleets operating in Northern Finland and the wider Oulu region.

Hans von Nandelstadh, Nordic Biogas Manager at St1, said the openings reinforce the company’s long‑term commitment to decarbonising heavy transport. “We are committed to expanding the LBG network because we want to offer our customers a cost-effective and practical solution for reducing emissions,” he said.

St1 already operates LBG stations in Iittala, Mäntsälä, Halikko, Hirvaskangas and Voutila, and plans additional sites in Liperi and Imatra in spring 2026. The company aims to reach 14 LBG locations by the end of 2026 and approximately 20 by 2028.

The development comes as St1 and its joint venture, St1 Biokraft, accelerate investment in biogas infrastructure across the Nordics. Together, they aim to create a network of more than 50 LBG stations by 2028. To date, 13 sites are operational across Finland, Sweden and Norway, with 14 more expected to open this year.
