That what following rules vs. principles gets you. When someone changes a social rule, rule followers follow. People with principles decide for themselves whether or not a rule makes sense.

I did not have Republicans abandoning the 2nd amendment on this year’s bingo card but there it is. If it wasn’t for the fact that they have no values it might mean something but we all know they’ll go back to supporting the 2nd amendment the moment a Republican is the one with the gun.
