Kosovo has signed on to Donald Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’, an initiative initially launched as a framework for Gaza’s reconstruction but now resembling a hastily assembled alternative to multilateralism, largely indifferent to the existing rules-based international order.
At Davos, President Vjosa Osmani did not hesitate. She showed up, signed, and claimed Kosovo’s seat, despite receiving the invitation only 48 hours earlier and apparently without prior coordination with Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who has remained notably silent since.
Kosovo was the only Western Balkan country to join. Albania’s Prime Minister, Edi Rama, accepted the invitation but strategically avoided Davos altogether, choosing not to publicly antagonise EU allies who overwhelmingly declined to participate, instead allowing the matter to drift toward parliamentary ratification.
Kosovo, by contrast, went all in. Visibility trumped caution. In a diplomatic environment where most states hedged, Kosovo rushed forward, eager to be counted.
