The visit of the Georgian parliamentary delegation to Seoul has concluded. The parliamentary delegation, headed by the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, held its final meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea with Director General.

The main topics of discussion at the meeting included the positive dynamics in bilateral relations and cooperation within the framework of international organizations.

Attention was focused on the continued support by the Republic of Korea for Georgia’s resolution — “Status of Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees from Abkhazia, Georgia, and the Tskhinvali Region/South Ossetia, Georgia” — as well as on Georgia’s co-sponsorship of the Republic of Korea’s resolution.

The parties also discussed prospects for future cooperation within the framework of the UN.

Members of the parliamentary delegation spoke about the situation and ongoing developments in Georgia’s occupied regions.

The Republic of Korea once again reaffirmed Korea’s intact support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Nikoloz Samkharadze expressed regret over an unfortunate incident that occurred last year in the Parliament of Korea, when representatives of the de facto authorities of Abkhazia held a meeting with one of the Members of Parliament, and expressed hope that such an incident would not recur.

The Korean side confirmed that its position regarding Georgia’s territorial integrity is unwavering and unchanged.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and the conclusion of negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement for the development of bilateral economic relations.

The parties noted the growing dynamic of deepening political relations between the two countries.

The Georgian delegation included: Vice-Speaker of Parliament Ilia Injia, Chair of the Procedural Issues Committee Davit Matikashvili, Chair of the Diaspora Committee Irakli Zarkua, and Deputy Chair of the “Georgian Dream” faction Nodar Turdzeladze.
