The Next Generation eCall project, funded by the European Union, will allow, in the event of a serious road accident, cars equipped with this system to automatically call the single emergency number 112, without the intervention of the driver or passengers.

“At the country level, the system will work like this: the car automatically transmits to 112 essential data for rapid intervention – the exact location of the accident, the number of people in the vehicle, the severity of the impact, the car’s VIN code (the unique identification number of a car) and the type of engine (gasoline, diesel, hybrid or electric). This information allows the emergency services to send the right resources in the shortest time”, he stated Daniella Misail-Nichitin.

The eCall system is mandatory for vehicles produced for the European Union market starting from 2018.
