Italy railway security body cameras are set to be issued to operational staff at FS Security after FS Italiane and trade unions agreed on shifting the devices into permanent use, as outlined in an FS Italiane press release.
Italy railway security body cameras go permanent in 2025
The decision follows a 2025 trial phase and is intended to improve safety for railway employees and passengers, particularly in areas and situations described as sensitive. FS Italiane also referenced the start of the trial in an FS Italiane update on the trial.
Regulated use agreed with unions
The FS Italiane bodycam agreement with unions sets out how the devices can be used, alongside safeguards for employees that align with data protection and privacy requirements.

Bodycams for railway security officers will be activated only when there is a potential risk to the operator or other people. When that happens, the devices record both image and sound.
Real-time monitoring via the command center
A central part of the system is the real-time bodycam transmission command center function: live video, audio, and geolocation data will be sent to the FS Security command center to support monitoring of incidents and assistance during critical interventions.
Recordings will be stored in encrypted form. Officers wearing the devices will not be able to access, download, or delete footage, a restriction intended to support transparency and proper use, as reported by Railway Pro.
From the 2025 pilot to standard equipment
The move toward standard deployment is based on results from the 2025 tests, which indicated the devices can help deter aggressive behavior and improve safety across the rail environment.
