Weimert

HOLLIDAYSBURG — The Hollidaysburg Lady Tigers basketball team started off Monday night’s game against the Penns Valley Lady Rams a little slow, only leading by two points after the first quarter.

As the game progressed, senior point guard Makenna Weimert led the charge as the Lady Tigers came out with a 55-40 victory.

Weimert finished the night with 25 points, including six 3-pointers from beyond the arc.

“Once I got in rhythm it was way easier for me to hit shots,” Weimert said. “When we figured it out, we can have a fast break and outrun them, it’s good for our team.”

In the second frame, fellow senior Clare Padamonsky tallied eight of Hollidaysburg’s 15 points en route to a 26-20 halftime lead.

“These are the games you need in February,” Lady Tigers coach Deanna Jubeck said. “You don’t want to be playing games where you’re beating people by 20 points,.You want to make every game a challenge.”

Things started taking off for the Lady Tigers (16-2) in the second half as Weimert tallied 16 total points, including those six 3-pointers.

“We always try to stay scrappy,” said Weimert, whose team led 38-31 after three quarters. “It was hard at first, but once we got in rhythm, it was good.”

Despite the losing effort, Penns Valley hung its hat on a solid effort all around according to its coach.

“We played four quarters, which is what we’ve been trying to do here lately,” Lady Rams coach Terrance Green said. “I’m very proud of our effort all the way around.”

As the regular season winds down, Hollidaysburg continues to focus on getting better.

“It’s another one in the right column,” Jubeck said. “You just got to make sure you focus and continue to get better each day at practice so we can try to get that district championship again.”

Hollidaysburg travels to Central on Thursday night, while Penns Valley hosts Bald Eagle Area.
