It’s highly inaccurate. Old data probably. Way less rail in Nova Scotia than those blurry purple so pixels say. I know there is more in Thailand Laos than this shows too.

Best part is that the Iranian railway was built by the Soviets and Brits during ww2 basically just to use the entire country as a road between the indian sea and Russia

There are no railway networks in central (Visayas) and southern (Mindanao) Philippines. Those might be old railway networks during the colonial era.

Nitpicking: The rail line running through Malaysia is inaccurate.
The line on the eastern side does not connect to Thailand (yet). It should terminate in the northeastern end of the peninsula just south of the border.

Iran is not correct. I travelled from Isfahan fo Bandar Abbas (coastal city on Persian Gulf) by train some years ago myself.
Similar to the US, Brazil adopted auto-centric policies in the mid 20th century which favored highways over inter-city rail.

In Brazil, we used to have more trains, in the 50s our president decided to prioritize cars too much and started to get rid of the trains. It is the same one who built Brasilia, Juscelino Kubitschek.

We absolutely overuse air travel as a species but we should probably give the interior of Brazil a pass on this issue.

It is a really inaccurate for Russia. Transpolar railway from Salekhard to Noviy Urengoy was mainly closed due to melting of permafrost in 90s. The line from Surgut to Nadym was constructed but it is not shown. Moreover the Amur-Yakutsk railway is missing. Some another inaccuracies include Kilemary railroad which were closed in early 00s. For Russia this map shows the railways somewhere in 2000-2003 but not 2022

Notice how all the African rail lines (outside of South Africa) don’t really connect to each other. They solely exits to transport natural resources from their source to a port to be taken out of the country.

Peru only has about 2,000 km but at its peak it had 4,500 km. That was 100 years ago, though. So sad.

Most of Brazil is uninhabited. I hope they dont start putting railway tracks through the forest. It’s one place where people really don’t need to be.
