  1. The colouring is wrong. The ligther blue should be 16 yo rather than 17 to have a coherent scaling effect.

  2. Different voting ages is so weird ??? Like someone is too young to vote for president but not for the european elections ?

  3. As an Austrian in his 20s, I am extremely glad about about the fact that we have Voting age at 16.

Firstly, People can vote for the first time while most of them are still in school. This gives the education system an opportunity to educate them and familiarise them with the voting process as opposed to leaving people to figure it out on their own when they leave school.

Also it helps to slightly remedy the extreme over representation old people have when it comes to decision making on future topics that they won’t live to feel the impact of. Having a larger share of the young population involved moves politics at least slightly to take more of the young people’s interests and needs into account.

It should be 16 imo. Yes, many youths are easily manipulated by TikTok bullshit but the same goes for adults and especially the elderly being manipulated by Facebook bullshit. Being 18 doesn’t suddenly make yoy immune to nonsense and young people have more of a stake in the country than the pensioners.

  5. I think we should go slightly beyond allowing 16 year olds to vote; make the day of the elections a holiday and have compulsory voting. The Australians have compulsory voting, they have BBQs at their voting stations. Europe can go further; a sausage and a beer once you vote

  6. The voting age in Scotland is only 16 for Scottish Parliament and Scottish local elections. The voting age is 18 for UK Parliament elections, including Scottish constituencies.

Classic, map doesn’t show which German states it applies to but does so for the UK, whose subregions are obviously anointed by God as the most special of all subregions

  8. It’s so ridiculous that underage people can vote in my country but can’t go to prison.

  9. “Fun” fact: Poland has a similar law to Hungary, where getting married at 16 makes you legally an adult, but it doesn’t give you voting rights, as they are explicitly for people aged 18 and above.

  10. Scotland and Wales are misleading and should be labelled as 18, not 16. It’s 16 for devolved legislative elections and local council elections. But it’s still 18 for UK parliamentary elections.

  11. It’s funny that since I reached the voting age I have only ever voted once and skipped all other elections. I remember myself being 16 and really wanting to vote only to stop caring 2 years later when I actually could.
