MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Montgomery Public Schools is adding artificial intelligence measures into education. The school system announced new initiatives at a press conference on Wednesday.
Through a new partnership, MPS will bring the concept of giving students an AI mentor.
In a partnership with L-Evate Academy through an app titled the “Life Be Life-Ing” app, McIntyre Comprehensive Academy students will get a closer look at artificial intelligence in their classrooms.
“What we’ve found all over the country is that the demand, not just here in Montgomery, for great mentors far outstrips the supply, and what we’re trying to do is leverage technology in this case artificial intelligence to bring great mentors to people who meet them where they are and help them grow through the 5 G’s,” said founder of L-Evate Academy, Danny White.
White presented the app and the main focus of AI mentorship to students and faculty members on Wednesday. Students are able to communicate and ask questions, including other tools such as mental wellness check-ins and rewards for students completing tasks.
For MPS, this is something that they have been trying to integrate for a while now.
“This app actually provides them with the tools that they need and meets them where they are at daily and actually provides that support to them. So, we are absolutely proud to partner with Mr. White, and we are excited about this program, and we are ready to move forward,” said MPS Superintendent, Dr. Zickeyous Byrd.
Byrd mentioned that while the app and AI mentorship will begin at McIntyre Academy, the goal is to get some of these tools throughout different MPS schools.
