*”The agreement to not buy the oil lasted until today” …*something the Trump White House would say…

When one of the most obese countries on earth tries to flex its muscles, the results aren’t very impressive.

Not surprising. India’s priority is energy security and affordability, not making symbolic gestures that hurt its own economy. Most countries would do the same in their position.

  4. Once again proves the old adage that anything attached to “trump says” is 100% bullshit, 100% of the time.

    Absolute cinema !!

What’s more hilarious is in Trump’s post he claimed that India would halt it’s oil imports from Russia and instead import energy , coal. agriculture worth 500 billion dollars from US and potentially Venezuela.

( India’s annual Oil import is around 120 to 130 billion US dollars approx )

Moreover Trump’s Press Secratary Karoline leavitt said that India has agreed to invest 500 billion dollars in US as part of the deal .

.( India’s total capital expenditure is around 130 billion US dollars )

  6. we’ve gotten to the point where the current U.S admin will make up a lie and use it to score a cheap win with their voter base, This is literally what they do in Russia, which is pretty ironic given the topic.

  7. Unlike Trump, India doesn’t throw it’s allies under the bus, especially not the ones that have been friends for over half a century.

  8. Selling cheap Russian oil to the EU was the whole reason for the “mother of all deals” with the EU.

Because MAGA supporters live in their own bubble, Trump can say anything and the base will just accept it as fact. It doesn’t matter official India government statement say, his base will either not see it or think it’s just another fake news.

  10. It’s a very good politics all around the world now to tell orange turd to go fuck himself. People love that.

I wish U.S. media would ask the White House in a press conference which of their statements are true anymore, because everything that comes out of their mouth needs a fact check.

    >”In so far as India’s energy security or sourcing is confirmed, the government has publicly on several occasions, including me here, stated that ensuring the energy security of 1.4 billion is the supreme priority of the government,” Jaiswal said. He further outlined the government’s strategy, adding, “Diversifying our energy sourcing in keeping with objective market conditions and evolving international dynamics is at the core of our strategy to ensure this. All of India’s decisions are taken and will be taken with this in mind.

    >Responding to questions on Venezuela, Jaiswal said India remains open to sourcing oil based on commercial considerations.”India’s stand is clear. We have long-standing partnership with Venezuela. And we remain open to buying oil from Venezuela or other places depending on its commercial viability,” he said.

I’m not sure I’d call this a rejection so much as a tactical non-answer

  13. I knew it. Wake up, MAGA! Trump doesn’t just lies to the libs he lies to you too! Think about that.

I just read the whole article. Where did India reject the claim it will halt oil imports from Russia? I honestly couldn’t find it.

  15. How could this be?! The Great Shitter himself assured us that they would stop importing from Russia and instead import from the new US colony of Venezuela!

  16. Irrelevant, Trump the deal maker already got his PR boost and no one who supports him will read this headline

  17. tldr; in order to ensure energy security of Indians, they will buy from wherever they want to.

Quoting from the article, MEA spokesperson said (*emphasis mine*):

“… India’s stand is clear. We have long-standing partnership with Venezuela. And we remain open to buying oil from Venezuela or ***other places*** depending on its commercial viability,” he said.

  18. Title is VERY misleading. Indian rep gave a very vague and non committal answer.

    Title is utter BS.

  19. the key points that the Indian MEA made:

    * Diversifying our energy sourcing in keeping with objective market conditions and evolving international dynamics is at the core of our strategy to ensure this. All of India’s decisions are taken and will be taken with this in mind.

    * “India’s stand is clear. We have long-standing partnership with Venezuela. And we remain open to buying oil from Venezuela or other places depending on its commercial viability,”

    * “wish to clarify once again, as the government has stated publicly on several occasions, that ensuring the energy security of 1.4 billion Indians is the supreme priority of the government.”

First… India’s govt is doing its job well: looking after the interests of its citizens.

Second… The USA: Trump tweeted “we have a deal” while India: This is how a professional govt operates.

Also the fact still remains that China and Turkey who recently surpassed India as 2nd largest buyers of Russian fuel , and both account for 38% and 21% , these are December reports where India and EU were at 18% and 11% respectively while EU still being the largest LNG importer from Russia at 40% and you can check the fact that India is diversifying from Russian( our MEA denied complete halt but not diversification).
