Question: If Cuba knows their oil has been cut off and they are going to run out, why are they wasting it on passenger flights and such? Shouldn’t a state of emergency rationing been declared as soon as it seemed in jeopardy of this strangulation? They need it for critical uses not flights.

Any aircraft landing in Cuba will have to be on the same rules as any military flights leading up to bases in the far north. They must bring enough fuel for the return trip.

Cuba has a long history of not paying their bills. They stiffed Japan and Brazil out of a billion dollar development loans, had them restructured and partially forgiven, then defaulted again. Now food shipments wait offshore until their check clears.
The only countries willing to prop up the failing regime at a loss, are other communist or authoritarian regime that dont like the global optics of failed experiments in communism.
Polls show that older Cubans support the regime, but most younger citizens want the regime to fall.
The regime, like most every other regime in the world, maintains a monopoly on violence, prevents opposition parties, and tries to control the domestic media.
Not a good situation, but not our problem to fix either. If the Cuban people cant get the type of government they want on their own, maybe they deserve the one they have.
But hey, nothing is preventing Europe or Canada from invading the island, overthrowing the communist regime, and setting up free and fair multi-party elections, and financing a transition to a capitalist free market economy.
Everybody, or specifically nations critical of Trump, want to be the new leaders of the free world …… until it comes to actually doing anything to spread freedom. Well, here’s the opportunity to put their money where their mouth is.

It’s incredible that there’s literally a memorandum (the Mallory Memo of 1959) that explicitly lays out how the embargo is meant to maximize human suffering so they can return Cuba to the gangster state it was under the Batista regime and people still think to this day the strangulation of the island is meant to somehow benefit its residents.

My friend just flew to Cuba today despite numerous of us telling him not to. He’s treating it like a vacation, how do you vacation in a place where people are starving and without power and fuel?
