Maybe it’s about how little I expect from Reform but I did wonder if they would stubbornly not raise council tax. Shows you how bad most council finances are.

Of all the shit Reform is doing, quitting over council tax rises seems ridiculousÂ

For some reason I had too much time on my hands yesterday and looked at the draft budget for Worcestershire. Some odd bits to it.
For instance they are currently underspending on Home to School travel but yet forecasting an increase for next year. Ok that’s fine, but it’s down as an additional pressure. The underspend and additional don’t equal the stated increase.
They don’t even have an all up table either comparing this year’s budget to last year’s. Makes it difficult to see the changes.
Whereas the previous year has a simple table showing the differences and a nice waterfall chart.
All I know is that if I produced something like their budget in a contract review, I’d be laughed out.

They should be resigning over breaking a major pledge to their constituents. It’s not like there has been a major change that has meant their promise was suddenly unachievable through events out of their control.
They lied or made excessively ignorant promises, and there should be consequences.

*Taylor added there were several other policy decisions that he could not stand by, including a policy for a “retention bonus payment” for all staff across the county council, which he said was up to 10% of their annual salary.*
*”This was aimed at all staff across Worcestershire County Council but also for the senior executive team,” he said.*

So did they do a Doge and found no fat to trim after all?

So what’s his plan now? What positive action is he taking? It’s easy saying what you don’t like, but if he intends to stay on as a councillor then he should be solving this problem, not just pointing it out.

I worked as a carer for the county council and i’d frequently visit 6 bed properties occupied by one person, with an obscene amount of wealth, getting their care paid for by continuing healthcare funding. I’m not surprised the council is in trouble when Worcestershire is predominantly White British older people, and 80pc of those people have an ‘I’m alright Jack’ mindset. Heating up their Waitrose finest ready meals was an absolute piss take. I couldn’t eat as well on 12.50 an hour
Voting Tory clearly served it’s purpose as these people had conserved a hell of a lot of wealth. I live in Birmingham thankfully so there’s some comfort knowing my council tax isn’t being used to give wealthy people things they really should be paying for themselves.
