An earthquake of magnitude 3.7 occurred in the morning on Monday, February 9th, 2026, at 9:08 am local time near Drama, Dráma, East Macedonia and Thrace, Greece, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 10. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the Kandilli Oservatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.3. Other agencies reporting the same quake include The Seismological Survey of Serbia (SSS) at magnitude 3.9, The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) at magnitude 3.3, the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) at magnitude 3.4, The Seismological Laboratory of the University of Athens (UOA) at magnitude 3.6, and the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 3.4.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Volakas (pop. 1,200) located 11 km from the epicenter, Prosotsani (pop. 4,000) 14 km away, and Petroussa (pop. 2,000) 16 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Xiropotamos (pop. 2,700) located 22 km from the epicenter, Drama (pop. 44,800) 27 km away, Gotse Delchev (pop. 20,500) 33 km away, Serres (pop. 58,300) 36 km away, Petrich (pop. 30,700) 57 km away, and Kavala (pop. 54,000) 59 km away.
