There’s a good reason why Macron is pushing this. Europe is facing more geopolitical pressure than ever.

  2. In current state, we are not a world power. How about you Mr.Macron started rebuilding infrastructure and manufacturing? So we won’t depend on others for everything and so we can be called a world power.

  3. And he is right about this. Economically we already are. We just need to federalize more and build a strong European army, to withstand treats from the east and west.

  4. That would be a good idea! It would be wise to hit the history books and prevent history from repeating…

  5. “to start acting like world power”

You have to be one first. Europe is too fragmented to be one.

  6. They could start by stopping all trade and breaking diplomatic relations with Russia and the Islamic Republic of Iran, but I doubt Europe will do even the bare minimum to act like a world power. Short term profits for big corporations seem to be more important to them than geopolitics. Right now they don’t have to worry much about geopolitics since the US defends them. Trading with the enemy and making the enemy stronger doesn’t seem to matter to European leaders.

  7. The problem, Mr. Macron, is that Europe has a hegemonic attitude while lacking actual hegemony.

Btw the eu has the second largest economy in the world for the idiots going

    “But they aren’t”

  9. You ain’t any world power, you are all ran by limp dick losers.

Russia constantly kills your people and sabotages your infrastructure, and you do nothing.

Half your countries got conquered by radicals that even saudis want to distance themselves from you.

You can’t even have Christmas in Germany out of fear of getting stabbed lmao

    “Act like world power”

It is too late. Im a Taiwanese living in the UK and previously lived in Germany. The longer I live in Europe the more I agree to that Europe is just an old museum. So outdated so stagnant stuck to the past. Europe is already very irrelevant in Asia. How it could be world power? Is there any Asian country Europe is more relevant than USA?

  11. Feel sorry for EU. Previously they had to face Putin and Xi but now they have to face Putin, Xi and Trump.

It isn’t a switch you can flip, and everything comes with a cost that must be borne. A cost and a sacrifice I don’t think most are willing to pay. If the EU was going to be a hegemon without painful budgeting of limited resources it would have done it already.

  13. It can’t be easy though. The EU is the EU, but you still have sovereign countries that wanna do their thing.

Ah yes, high taxes and more debt to fund government directed investment – the key pillars of a strong economy. Europe absolutely is facing more threats than ever. With all this USA bashing lately, I am starting to wonder who’s betraying whom? Europe expected eternal US military protection while offering nothing in return. Not even a kind words. The second the US says something, “well fine, we will cozy up to China”. No care for human rights abuses, or greenhouse gas emissions. I think the EU needs to consider how they can be a better ally and partner for the US and not how they can make demands louder.

lee kwan yew said it best, the EU will be a strong economic block, but militarily they’ll never have enough unity to actually matter, but as a trading block, they’re so valuable and they really have yet to get their shit together

The problem is that the Europe has many competing interests, so they don’t have “one voice” they can use to exert power on a lot of things.

  17. “Acting like” could just be cosplay or it could be creating a real defensive capacity. It will be interesting to see which Europe chooses. Europe did the economic thing, it educated people, it generated a bunch of wealth. That’s not enough in today’s world, so hopefully it will be on to the next challenge.

  18. a country threatened to invade one of you and yall could muster 30 soldiers to reinforce the frontline. pipe the fuck down surrender nation.

  19. Sure Macron. 100% agree. Now let’s get rid of national vetoes and national marker protection within the EU so we can actually become a world power, alright?

  20. The thing is, they aren’t. They depend and rely on the US for a lot of their military security. Have since WW2. If all these countries first demand the US stop renting ALL the bases and secure ports for their military in ALL Euro countries, and moves the 65, 000 active duty personnel and their dependents out of Europe, refuse any US foreign aid to the multiple countries that receive it, returning all that they’ve ever received, THEN they might be able to start building up and becoming a super power.

But then again, this is being said by the political leader of the most ” we surrender” country in the world.

*sighhhh* Smh this kind of imperialist thinking is just going to pass the dictatorship vibes along. The world doesn’t need consolidated power. It needs more localized investment. Globalism isn’t a functional model when you leave half the world in the dust.

Wimp ! It took carney for them to think about growing a pair .  He’ll probably cave again . Starmer is the worst . Rolled out red carpet .

Tax the heck out of America tech .

EU is still pretty good. They build infrastructure across countries . Going across the border is nothing.
EU countries don’t hate each other as much as blue or red states .

The champion of free trade, who sold his country off piece by piece to the highest bidder, especially his American buddies, is now fancifully proclaiming himself the standard-bearer of a strong Europe… Have mercy!

  24. Why does an EU of 450 million people, need a USA of 340 million people, to protect them from a Russia of 140 million people?

The EU could be a military power rivalling the USA and Russia *combined*, if only they took their own security seriously.
