Two new cases of scabies have been registered among professional soldiers of North Macedonia at the Veles barracks, bringing the number of infected to four.
The RMV Army (URMV) says that the disease did not originate from the barracks, but was brought from abroad.
According to epidemiologists, the infected soldiers have been sent for treatment at home, and the other persons have not been placed in isolation, and in the meantime, the situation with the remaining soldiers is being closely monitored and treated in accordance with the recommendations of epidemiologists.
“The sick soldiers at the Veles barracks have been sent home for treatment. The rest are in good condition and without symptoms of the disease. Scabies has been confirmed in four students of the professional soldiers’ course at the Veles barracks,” says Lieutenant Colonel Larisa Oranska, epidemiologist at the Military Medical Center, indicating that all necessary measures have been taken and the condition of the remaining students attending the course is being monitored.
The first case, she says, was reported last Thursday, after which all preventive measures were taken.
The diagnosed person was immediately referred to a specialist and for home treatment, followed by additional preventive measures.
“We carry out preventive measures regularly according to our monthly plan. And according to the indication, like now, we also carry out extraordinary surveillance,” she says.
