A magnitude 4.9 earthquake near Tetovo, North Macedonia, was reported only 7 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 5. km beneath the epicenter late at night on Tuesday, February 10th, 2026, at 10:05 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), which listed it as a magnitude 4.6 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) at magnitude 4.4, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 4.6, and The Seismological Laboratory of the University of Athens (UOA) at magnitude 4.7.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Dobroste (pop. 3,300) located 9 km from the epicenter, and Tearce (pop. 23,100) 9 km away.
In Jegunovce (pop. 7,300) located 14 km from the epicenter, Tetovo (pop. 63,200) 15 km away, Zelino (pop. 25,400) 19 km away, Brvenica (pop. 16,300) 20 km away, Prizren (pop. 171,500) 22 km away, Bogovinje (pop. 15,200) 25 km away, and Ferizaj (pop. 59,500) 29 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Skopje (pop. 474,900) located 40 km from the epicenter, Kumanovo (pop. 75,100) 60 km away, and Pristina (pop. 550,000) 61 km away.
