SPAR Slovenia has introduced the ‘Strokovnjaki priporočajo’ (Experts Recommend) label to help customers make healthier food choices.

Collaborating with the expert council of the ‘Več vem, bolje jem’ (The More I Know, the Better I Eat) programme, which includes leading nutrition specialists, SPAR has identified 150 products that meet specific nutritional criteria.

These experts have reviewed the SPAR product range to counteract misinformation surrounding healthy eating.

They selected over 150 verified foods that align with European legislative criteria for appropriate vitamin, mineral and macronutrient content.

These products are nutrient dense and have undergone minimal processing, representing proven quality and expert selection.

Dr Teja Klančič, one of the experts, commented, “I recommend fermented products, such as sauerkraut and natural kefir.

“Fermented food is a real laboratory of life, full of probiotics and postbiotics, which work together to restore intestinal balance.

“This natural package of biotics strengthens gut health and gives your digestive system more stability and resilience.”

All products bearing the ‘Experts Recommend’ label are available in SPAR and Interspar stores.

The expert panel will also ensure regular updates to this product list.

Italian Expansion

Across the border in Italy, the local SPAR concessionaire, Despar, opened 132 new and renovated stores in 2025, representing a 20% increase on its 110 openings in 2024.

Of this total, 102 were new stores and 30 were renovations.

The majority of this growth (114 stores) came from affiliated entrepreneurs, while 18 stores were directly operated.

The expansion encompassed all of the Despar store types, including 46 Despar Express stores (compact stores for urban and tourist areas), 49 Despar stores (the network’s central format, with a wide assortment and strong local roots), five Eurospar stores (medium-sized supermarkets) and two Interspar stores (large-scale stores with extensive offerings, focused on local products).
