  1. This is a terrible idea. No one has given them a mandate to do this. The UK is just shaping it’s own economy and they announce this?

Looks like a reform government will be formed. Eugh. They need to balance the voters.

  2. Reeves knows the labour backbenchers won’t allow any cuts that would be needed to fund growth policies, so she’s relying on better trade deals to promote growth.

  3. Why are they so desperate to rejoin an economic union thats in decline? France never left and they have performed far worse than we have since Brexit.

  4. I mean this is amazing, it’s the most pro-EU I’ve heard from the government yet.

But I worry it will go down like several lead balloons in some circles.

  5. “without getting anything in return” – im not sure you understand what “trade” means

  6. It would be so good to get back into the single market again. So many small businesses would benefit

It’s important that the US and other countries see that we working with other countries. I for one would like to see EU as a world power that the UK is on good terms with whether we are part of the EU or not.

Good plan. Now let’s challenge Reform / Tories to withdraw and tank the economy in 2029

  9. As it stands we have to abide by the rules to gain entry to the market. They have unfettered access to ours as we are still unable to police our border.

If we did it wouldn’t achieve anything other than leading to empty shelves within weeks. Ultimately it’s a 70m country v the EU’s 450m. They can afford the hit in trade, we can’t. If we could do without the EU we would have done it by now.
