Behind the plans to build large slaughterhouses and poultry farms in the Sisak-Moslavina County region of Croatia is Andrii Matiukha, known as the “Ukrainian betting king” due to his activity in the gambling industry.

The project, worth around 600 million euros, is being developed by the Premium Chicken Company, part of a network of businesses linked to Matiukha and his investment company Renaissance Capital.

The plan envisages the construction of chicken farms, slaughterhouses and chicken processing plants in this area, including a slaughterhouse in Sisak with a capacity of around 82 million chickens per year, reports index.hr.

The project has caused strong reactions from the local community and environmental organizations, which express concerns about the potential negative impact on the environment, such as soil and water pollution, as well as the spread of unpleasant odors.

So far, around 45 million euros have been invested, while some segments of the project have completed the necessary environmental procedures, while others are still in the evaluation process. /Telegraph/
