According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), between late Thursday, 12 February, afternoon and Friday, 13 February, morning, mainland Portugal will be crossed by “a frontal system associated with a low-pressure area centred north of the Iberian Peninsula,” which “in its movement towards Spain (…) will give rise to Depression Oriana.”

“This depression will not directly affect mainland Portugal since its development will already be in Spanish territory,” it stressed.

However, this frontal system will result in periods of rain, sometimes heavy, and wind with gusts of up to 80 kilometres per hour in mainland Portugal, the statement reads.

Based on this forecast, IPMA has issued a yellow rain warning for Viseu, Évora, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Setúbal, Santarém, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra, Portalegre and Braga during this period.
