  1. What happened in the early 1000s to cause such a large fracture? Went from basically two to dozens in a few hundred years

Edit: this is obviously a huge, simple question with no easy answer. It is just interesting to see it being “smashed” to so many pieces

Jeez when you think you know anything about history…So the Spaniards and Portuguese are Romanized Visigoths.

You can see the almoravids and almohads just randomly come and push back the reconquista, only to collapse into several micro states lol

What’s the deal with the central plateau? Did someone claim a section of the coast and then call dibs on the 200miles inland from there?

  5. visigoths really said “we’re gonna lose spain to everyone except the people we started with” and then spent 800 years proving it

  6. This map should be the whole Mediterranean and starts with roman expansion

The roman took over the whole Mediterranean until the muslims expansion. Then on 1100 thw crusaders were pushing on the east while almoraveds were pushing on the west. Then while almoraveds were losing the Mamlukes were kicking the last crusade kingdoms.

Similar also with the fall of Constantinople 1453 and fall of granada 1492

What reason did the unmayads not crush the small strip of land in the beginning? Was there any political reasons?

How much islamic heritage and leftovers can be seen in everyday life and among the culture in Portugal and Spain compared to like the Balkans. Ofc the Balkans will have much more cause it was much more recent and the Balkans have a large Muslim population too. Just interested how much muslim and Arabic heritage can be seen in the culture and everyday life on the Iberian peninsula

Byzantium only on here at the beginning just to be replaced with the Umayyad bros and never been seen there again. It makes me weep.
