The novel integrative systems approach proposed in this new research enhances the resilience and sustainability of integrated energy systems as future, complex energy critical infrastructures exposed to extreme natural hazards (e.g., climate change-induced extreme weather events). It is based on two systems approaches—re-engineered fourth generation management (R4thGM) and integrated energy system governance (IES governance)—, using artificial intelligence (AI), advanced stochastic simulation, and resilience robust optimization methods.
