MILAN, Italy — Andrea Braendli stopped all 40 shots she faced to lead Switzerland to a 1-0 win over Finland in the quarterfinals of the women’s hockey tournament on Saturday, Feb. 14.
Finland beat Switzerland, 3-1, in the preliminary round of the tournament. Switzerland advances to play Canada at 2:10 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16. Canada beat Germany, 5-1, to advance.
Alina Muller scored with assists from Lara Stalder and Rahel Enzler at 14:17 of the second period for the lone goal of the game.
Sanni Ahola, who played for St. Cloud State from 2020-25,
made 13 saves for Finland.
SCSU sophomore defenseman Siiri Yrjölä
played 14:23 and had one shot on goal for Finland. Forward Jenniina Nylund, who played for SCSU from 2018-23, played 12:55 and had two shots for Finland.
St. Cloud State junior forward Laura Zimmermann
played 11:51 and was 3-0 on faceoffs for Switzerland.

Forwards Hilda Svensson and Hanna Olsson had goals and Ebba Svensson Träff stopped all 29 shots she faced to lead Sweden to a quarterfinals win over Czechia on Friday, Feb. 13.
Sweden will play the United States in the semifinals at 9:40 a.m. Monday, Feb. 16. The Americans defeated Italy, 6-0, to advance.
Klára Hymlárová, who played for St. Cloud State from 2019-24,
played for Czechia. Hymlárová played 17:17 and was 0-for-2 on faceoffs.

Laura Kluge, who played for St. Cloud State from 2017-21, played 19:49 for Germany. Kluge was 3-7 on faceoffs and had two shots on goal. St. Cloud State senior forward Svenja Voigt played 14:16 for Germany.

Brady Tkachuk, Matt Boldy, Jake Guentzel, Noah Hanifin and Jack Hughes had goals and Jack Eichel had a goal and an assist to lead the Americans to preliminary round win on Saturday, Feb. 14.
Former St. Cloud State players Oliver Lauridsen and Patrick Russell played for Denmark. Lauridsen, who played defense for the Huskies from 2008-11, played 15:29 and was even in plus-minus. Russell, who played forward for SCSU from 2014-16, had three shots on goal, two penalty minutes, was 1-3 on faceoffs and was minus-3 in 18:43 of ice time.
Team USA plays Germany in a preliminary round game at 12:10 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15.
