  1. “U.S.-based employers announced 108,435 job cuts in January, marking a 118% increase from the 49,795 cuts reported in the same month last year, according to a report.

In 2025, companies cited AI in 54,836 announced layoffs, and since tracking began in 2023, [AI](https://www.indiablooms.com/finance/oracles-openai-bet-triggers-up-to-30000-job-cuts-as-cash-pressure-mounts/details) has been referenced in 79,449 job cut announcements.

  2. Musk taught CEO’s a lesson when he cut 80% of the headcount at X: things will kinda keep working and though people will complain there are few other places to go. Same for the rest of corporate America. Because of mergers and acquisitions from tech to pork products there is little competition left. So quality and creativity can drop and people will keep buying. The headcount savings go right to the bottom line all while CEOs can hide behind the AI hype. AI WILL induce more cuts but that’s a second wave that’s just beginning to build

Am I misinterpreting this. Less than 10% of jobs lost were to AI. That’s 90% layoff for whatever other reason other than AI right?
