The Republic of Armenia has announced a temporary visa exemption policy aimed at boosting tourism and strengthening international connectivity, allowing eligible foreign nationals to travel visa-free. The measure came into effect on January 1, 2026, and will remain valid until July 1, 2026.
Under the new measure, travellers holding a valid residence permit issued by the United States, European Union Member States, Schengen Area countries, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait or Oman will be permitted to enter Armenia without obtaining a visa. The exemption applies to nationals of 113 countries, including India, South Africa, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and several African, Asian and Latin American nations.
Eligible travellers may stay in Armenia for up to 180 days within a one-year period, provided their residence permit remains valid for at least six months from the date of entry. The residence permit must be presented either as a physical card or as a sticker affixed in the passport. Border authorities will recognise permits that display key details in Latin script, including the document title, the traveller’s name, nationality, date of birth and validity period in the Gregorian calendar format.
The initiative is designed to encourage spontaneous travel, short breaks, family visits, business trips and extended exploratory journeys, positioning Armenia as an accessible and welcoming destination in 2026.
Lusine Gevorgyan, Chairman of the Tourism Committee of Armenia, said, “This decision is a clear invitation to travellers around the world. Armenia is open and welcoming, and we look forward to sharing our culture, landscapes and hospitality with more visitors throughout 2026.”
With its ancient monasteries, dramatic mountain landscapes, UNESCO World Heritage sites and vibrant culinary scene, Armenia offers a distinctive blend of history and contemporary culture. From exploring Yerevan’s cafés and museums to hiking in the Caucasus and discovering centuries-old traditions, the country presents year-round experiences for leisure and business travellers alike.
