The Lakers star revealed that he plans to attend the two international events and lead the Slovenian national team.
Beyond the NBA and his duties with the Los Angeles Lakers, Luka Doncic has his focus set on leading the Slovenian national basketball team in two important international events over the next two years.
Speaking to the media right after the 2026 NBA All-Star Game, Doncic is mainly looking forward to playing in front of LA fans and leading his nation to the 2028 Olympics.
“First of all, it’s an amazing city. Everybody wants to come out here. The weather’s great, you have the beach, and many big events are happening here,” Doncic told reporters.
“I’ll be attending some of them for sure.”
Doncic and Slovenia sit at 1–1 in Group H for the current European qualifying window for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
They first have to qualify for the second round by finishing in the top three of their group. Without Doncic, the Slovenians are slated for a huge challenge on Feb. 27 as they’ll face the group-leading Czech Republic (2-0).
The Slovenians have to finish the qualifying tournament as a top-three team to secure an outright berth to reach Qatar next year, where a ticket to the LA Olympics will be at stake.
Luka and Slovenia are eyeing qualification for the men’s basketball tourney of the Summer Games for the first time since the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
