Man Detained in Moldova for Illegally Taking Daughter from Ukraine

As reported by the Moldovan General Inspectorate for Migration Issues (IGM)

In Moldova, a man who took his 3-year-old daughter several months ago and illegally removed her from Ukraine has been arrested. The information was confirmed by Moldova’s General Inspectorate for Migration (IGM), explaining that it concerns a family conflict and a divorce from the child’s mother.

According to the agency, in October 2025 the father took the child from a playground and illegally removed her from Ukraine. Ukrainian law enforcement authorities at the time issued a lookout for the girl.

Recently the girl and her father were found in the Moldovan city of Cahul. The child was handed over to her mother. She is currently not at risk to her life or health.

The 43-year-old man himself was detained on charges of kidnapping a child and placed in a detention cell at the Chișinău police. Authorities have now begun extradition proceedings to Ukraine.

    Next Steps in the Case

The investigation is ongoing, and the case is at the stage of being transferred to Ukrainian law enforcement authorities to complete the legal procedures and return the child to the mother.
