Finland vs. Slovakia: The matchup
Slovakia faced a powerful United States team in Friday’s semifinal round and fell to the bronze medal matchup with a 6-2 loss there. The team faces Finland for a second time after opening the Olympics with a 4-1 win over the Finns earlier in the month. Slovakia finished Group B play with a 2-1-0 record and beat Germany (6-2) in the quarterfinals before falling to the U.S.
Speaking of potent foes, Finland played gold medal favorite Canada tough in the semifinals and led 2-1 going into the third period before the Canadians rallied with a pair of late goals at the 50:34 and 59:24 marks. Finland advanced to the semis with a 3-2 victory of its own over Switzerland, storming back from a 2-0 deficit with goals from Sebastian Aho (53:54) and Miro Heiskanan (58:48) and a game-winner from Artturi Lehkonen in OT.
