The Handball Federation of Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Croatia informed the public that, following a successful joint meeting of the region’s handball federations held in Zagreb, an initiative has been launched to establish a Women’s Regional League, support has been expressed for organizing regional tournaments for the cadet age category, and a unified willingness of all federations has been stated to reactivate the SEHA League.

The meeting was organized by the Croatian Handball Federation and attended by representatives of all national federations from the territory of the former Yugoslavia, thereby confirming a shared commitment to improving the quality and competitiveness of handball in the region.

In addition to adopting the initiative to form the Women’s Regional League, the meeting also reached the following important conclusions for handball in the region:

  • Unreserved support was given for the organization of multi-year, competitive regional tournaments for the cadet age category, in both men’s and women’s competitions, with the aim of systematically developing young talents and creating a stronger base for the future of national teams;

  • A clear and unified willingness of all federations was expressed to reactivate the SEHA League, after resolving outstanding issues related to the main sponsor, recognizing the importance of this competition for promoting clubs and strengthening regional cooperation.

The initiative to establish the Women’s Regional League, as well as the support for the development of cadet competitions and the revitalization of the SEHA League, represents an extremely important step toward creating a stronger, more competitive, and sustainable handball system in the region, with a particular focus on the development of women’s handball and youth categories.
