The Odstock, Nunton, and Bodenham Women’s Institute (WI) welcomed Dr Simon Boxall, an oceanographer and senior lecturer from Southampton University, who delved into the impact of climate change on global weather patterns and sea life.
Dr Boxall, who is known for using Argo Floats and remote sensors to measure sea temperatures and methane levels, presented data showing a rapid increase in global warming in recent years.
The effects of this warming on sea life and weather extremes were illustrated through graphs.
Dr Boxall’s work doesn’t stop at oceanography; he is actively engaged in spreading cultural awareness about climate change through various television projects.
These films feature the likes of musicians, artists, and authors who accompany Dr Boxall on his Arctic expeditions.
The WI January lunch was lauded as a major success, with the raffle raising £105.
The amount has since been donated to The Salisburys Women’s Refuge.
Upcoming events are scheduled for March 9.
A talk on the brain by Alan Jones has been lined up, and there will be a tabletop sale of accessories.
