The Polish secret service has arrested a suspected agent who allegedly spied in Germany, Poland and Lithuania.

The Belarusian citizen was arrested at the beginning of February, the domestic intelligence service ABW announced. Investigators accuse him of spying on military objects and critical infrastructure for the Belarusian secret service in Germany, Poland and Lithuania since June 2024.

The arrest is reportedly the result of cooperation with the German Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (domestic secret service) and the Lithuanian secret service. The man was initially remanded in custody for three months. If convicted, he faces at least five years in prison.

Poland is one of the most important political and military supporters of Ukraine, which is under attack from Russia. The government in Warsaw accuses the secret services of Russia and its ally Belarus of sending many agents into the country and recruiting saboteurs.
