But according to Texans it’s huge. It’s bigger than the USA even and definitely bigger than small countries like Australia or Europe
Edit: for those not in the know this has been a meme for a long time. Go check /r/shitamericanssay or just ask AI about what happened when you were living under a rock

I have a picture from a roadhouse where it’s 450km one way to the next roadhouse and 500km to the next town the other way.Â
Needless to say I was in the middle of nowhereÂ

Australian states are really huge, imagine if the contiguous US only had 6 states and DC.

Yet everyone wants to live in Texas and nobody wants to live in Australia

As an American on my first visit to Aus, a local volunteered that Queensland was bigger than Texas really competitively. I informed him that I had never been to Texas so what does that have to do with me. Australia is consumed with places advertising the world’s largest this or that at the next exit. Now I live in Texas which has more people than the whole country.

Wow, that one single state, of fifty, of ours isn’t as large as your continent.

Texas is bigger than we thought? It’s a massive chunk of Western Australia.

I always assumed Western Australia was close to Alaska, but it looks like its area is a little bigger than Alaska and Texas combined.
Wow.

Honestly I thought Australia was larger.

Weird to see Americans in this thread sort of a little annoyed by this post, or like vocally unimpressed…
Either you’re going to be surprised Australia is so big,
Unsurprised as it’s about what you expected,
Or surprised Texas is so big.
There’s no one-up-manship going on here, we’re just comparing two paces that are hard to compare because of their relative position on a map.

And to think Texas has a larger population than all of Australia.

You could also place the entire population of Texas in that area and nobody would notice.

Wild that Texas has such a bigger GDP than that entire country despite the massive natural resources Australia possesses.

Texas has a higher population, most of which is in the eastern half.

To be fair i’d consider western Australia, or even most of AUS to be a territory. Its just not the same as Texas, with its several metropolitan areas.
I’d say this is why Americans bring up Texas and not Alaska, even though alaska is 2.5 times bigger than Texas. Its just loads of empty nothingness.
And no, I am not an American.

Having driven Dallas to LA a handful of times, Perth to Adelaide seems manageable. Which is more scenic? lol

Texas isn’t all that big. It wouldn’t even crack the top 5 Canadian provinces and territories.

Now do Alaska.

Do Europeans go to Australia and believe they’ll drive across it in a few hours, or is that just in the U.S.?
