Major General Sergey Lipovoy warns the West could stage a provocation near the NATO border using Russian uniforms, citing intelligence data and drills near Kaliningrad.
The West could attempt to trigger a direct military clash with Russia by staging a provocation near the NATO border, disguising its troops in Russian uniforms, according to Major General Sergey Lipovoy, chairman of the presidium of the nationwide organization «Officers of Russia» and a Hero of Russia.
In an interview with TASS, Lipovoy suggested that a large-scale conflict would be possible only if Russia were drawn into a major provocation, potentially somewhere along its frontier with NATO member states.
He pointed to what he described as warning signs already observed near Kaliningrad. According to the general, units wearing Russian military uniforms and operating equipment similar to Russian models had been spotted at training grounds in the Baltic countries. These formations were reportedly rehearsing offensive maneuvers that, in his assessment, bore the hallmarks of a staged scenario rather than routine drills.
Lipovoy added that information about the development of such plans comes from Russian intelligence sources.
