  1. Source: IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes (Critics & Audience), Metacritic, Letterboxd

Tool: Chart.js for the visualization, HTML/CSS/JS for the interactive version

Methodology: Each source normalized to 0–100 and weighted (IMDb 30%, RT Critics 20%, RT Audience 20%, Metacritic 20%, Letterboxd 10%). Interactive version with filtering and sorting at [https://y-list.com/film](https://y-list.com/film)

Idk how effective horizontal bar charts are with this many categorizes (movies). It makes it hard to compare movies on different parts of the list on most screens

  3. I cannot see the tiny letters which makes it not beautiful for me. When I zoom in the iPhone bug makes another page load. When I click on the picture itself and then zoom in, I cannot see the top ten.

    This is data are ugly

  4. The moviedb is another great source. I would also use equal weighting, since it didn’t seem justified to have one higher. IMDB user vs critic ratings are also really different

  5. There are four anime movies on this list, genuinely shocked, three Ghibli films

Edit: said five instead of four originally

  6. did you factor in or weight the number of ratings?

    eg the godfather

    imdb: 3mil ratings – 9.3
    tomatoes: 250k ratings – 9.8
    letterboxd: 126k – 9
    metacritic: 5k ratings – 9.2
    tomatoes critics – 150 ratings – 9.7

not sure how that equals 9.5

realistically imdb has so many more ratings that everything else is statistically irrelevant (literally still 9.3)

edit: didn’t see your comment so my question is moot, still think the dominance of imdb makes the other sources irrelevant, 150 critics should not get 20% of weight in my opinion

I’m confused why “The Social Network” is #79 but “The Matrix” and “Die Hard” and “The Wizard of Oz” don’t even make the list

How the hell is Terminator 2 barely squeaking into the entire list and Top Gun Maverick sits ahead of that is beyond me. This list sucks.

Happy to see whiplash up there, not so happy to see Oppenheimer, that movie was not very interesting or paced well.

  10. Emergency-Permit-136 on

Glad to see Before Sunrise on the list. The Before movies unseated Lotr as my favorite trilogy as I’ve aged.

  11. How is Spirited Away in all of these top movie list. I watched and a was like WTF. It reminds me of CATS the musicals winning a Tony. Are there mandatory drugs you need to take before watching these.

  12. No Wizard of Oz is pretty crazy! Very surprised that one doesn’t show up while some others do…
