Establishment was also found to be registered to a company that had ceased trading

A Malta-based betting company has been caught operating an illegal gambling establishment in Calabria, Italian news outlets have reported.

The betting shop in the coastal town of Bovalino was operating on behalf of a “well-known” Malta-based gambling company which Italian media said was not licensed to operate in the country.

The establishment was also found to be registered to a company that had ceased trading, while operating without a list of prohibited games, a legal requirement in Italy.

Local media had not named the Maltese company involved at the time of publication.

The raid was carried out by the Calabria branches of Italy’s military law enforcement wing Guardia di Finanza and the Agency for Customs and Monopolies (ADM). Those caught in the swoop were reported to judicial authorities in Calabria.

A further unconnected raid in Condofuri, a town south-west of Bovalino, netted authorities an unauthorised slot machine.
