US President Donald Trump is delivering the traditional State of the Union address to a divided Congress, reviewing his first year in office and outlining priorities ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Fresh off a Supreme Court defeat of his tariffs and facing slipping approval ratings, Trump is expected to frame the speech around the theme “America at 250: Strong, Prosperous and Respected”, a nod to the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
The White House has said that Trump will be focusing on domestic issues, with “a large portion of the speech focusing on the economy and affordability issues”. The US president is also expected to mention immigration, crime and national security.
